Four Quadrant Strategy with Wordless Picture Books
Take 8 pictures from the book to spark discussion.
Divide paper into 4 quadrants (use graphic organizer) 4 minutes discussions with group about the pictures - in quadrant one write down words and phrases that stand out to you. What do you predict the story is about. What do you see? What problem might they be addressing. 4 minutes quiet writing on the reverse side of the quadrant. Concentrate on 2 good descriptive sentences (if using picture prompts for narrative writing) The physically up and move with your group to picture #2 and repeat. |
The Hidden Gem: Linda LiuHer illustrations at first glance look simple, but are unassumingly detailed with social justice, racial, and gender identity connections that allow teachers to talk about inclusion, tolerance, and acceptance within the context of the story, that can easily transfer to daily life and interactions.
