Blogging with KidsGetting Started
Before you start blogging with your class, I believe you should:
1) Inform parents: Here is the letter I used with my class this year. It is a word document. Feel free to use what you would like from the letter! 2) Have the students sign a contract with their parents I find this a valuable way to inform parents and students of our expectations! The infractions are clearly outlined for students who are rude etc. Using KidblogI tried to think of a way to create my own guide to Kidblog and then I can across this awesome guide to Kidblog. Therefore, I chose not to reinvent the wheel. Here is a great reference tool if you want to build and manage your own blog.

Join a Blog for today!Even though Kidblog can be set to private settings, it is is still good to follow general safety rules. This helps enhance teaching proper web usage.
This is a great general safety guide to share with your parents and students. - Blogging Safety Teaching about Weblogs
Before student try their first blog, I teach them the parts of a weblog. We do a live / interactive blog. I give them all three sticky notes, and then I set up each of the three chalkboards in my classroom with questions.
I then have them write a blog post on paper. I have them write about their weekend. Then we trade around and sticky the blogs. Then I model some of the basic features of Kidblog. For example, how to post, spell check, comment, embed a video or a link. I just show them the basics. I also show them how to navigate through Kidblog. We practice commenting as a class. For example I post what is your favourite colour and why! Here is the hand out I give them about the Components of a Blog. BLOGO - BINGO card for bloggingI rolled out December BLOGO today. My students were very excited. By the time I had arrived at home and checked the blog, 10 people had finished their first BLOGO square!
I saw on pinterest a writing BINGO idea and I thought, that it would be cool to create similar activities for the blog. So BLOGO was born!! Here is the BLOGO card. ![]()
